Nycomed Amersham Imaging Launches cancerpaintherapy.com

New Gateway to Information About Bone Pain Relief Associated With Cancer Reinforces Company Commitment to Patient and Physician Education. -- Nycomed Amersham Imaging, the leader in in-vivo diagnostic imaging and a leading provider of radiotherapy products, today launched cancerpaintherapy.com, a new Web site to provide patients with a gateway to information about treatment options for bone pain associated with advanced forms of cancer. This is the second site that Nycomed Amersham Imaging has introduced as part of its ongoing commitment to cancer patient and physician education. The first site, prostatecancersurvival.com, was introduced in early November.

``As leaders in the development and distribution of products for early and late stage cancer treatment, we recognize that immediate access to reliable information is an important factor in improving a patient's quality of life,'' said Daniel L. Peters, President of Nycomed Amersham Imaging in the Americas. ``Cancerpaintherapy.com provides patients with a better understanding of pain associated with metastic bone disease, options for pain relief, as well as clinical data and technical information. Cancerpaintherapy.com will also provide links to other cancer resources, including the American Pain Society, American Cancer Society, US Too! International, National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship, National Prostate Cancer Coalition, and our own site, prostatecancersurvival.com.''

In addition to background information about pain associated with the advanced stages of cancer, cancerpaintherapy.com will provide detailed information about Metastron® (strontium-89 chloride), including data on safety and efficacy. Physicians will have access to technical information on METASTRON including clinical trials that demonstrate pain control for up to 6 months. Data from these trials also suggests that 20% of all patients reported complete pain relief for up to 6 months, without the side effects associated with narcotic analgesics. A bibliography of published articles is included on the Web site to provide physicians with more detailed information about METASTRON.

METASTRON is administered as a single outpatient injection, with pain relief usually beginning within 7 to 20 days and lasting up to 6 months. Many patients are able to resume normal activities free from debilitating bone pain associated with the latter stages of prostate cancer. Moreover, METASTRON is not associated with side effects such as sedation and constipation, commonly seen with narcotic analgesics.

METASTRON remains the world's leading radiopharmaceutical for the treatment of advanced bone pain associated with prostate cancer. In recent years, it has also been successfully used for advanced bone pain associated with lung and breast cancer.

METASTRON should be used with caution in patients with significantly compromised bone marrow from previous therapy or disease infiltration. Caution should be used in patients with platelet counts below 60,000 or white blood cell counts below 2400.

Nycomed Amersham Imaging is a supplier of radiotherapy products such as OncoSeed(TM), the leading brand of I-125 seeds for the treatment of prostate cancer. OncoSeed seeds are tiny radioactive seeds implanted into the prostate, where they irradiate the tumor (typically around 100 seeds are implanted). This type of treatment, known as brachytherapy, is a nonsurgical outpatient procedure. Within days of the procedure, most patients are back to their everyday activities. (The most commonly reported side effects of prostate brachytherapy are short-term obstructive or irritative urinary symptoms in the first few weeks after treatment.) Studies with OncoSeed have yielded 10-year follow-up results that document better biochemical disease-free survival than comparable external beam radiation series and are equivalent to disease-free results from surgical series.

Nycomed Amersham Imaging is a research-based pharmaceutical company dedicated to providing health care professionals with products that expand and improve the diagnostic capabilities and contribute to treatment of disease.

Headquartered in Princeton, New Jersey, Nycomed Amersham Imaging is part of Nycomed Amersham plc (NYSE: NYE; LSE: NAM). Nycomed Amersham plc is a world leader in in-vivo diagnostic imaging and life sciences. The company has annual sales of 1.1 billion pounds sterling (approximately U.S. $1.85 billion) and around 8,500 employees worldwide.

For complete indications, warnings, and contraindications for the products described above, contact Nycomed Amersham Imaging's Professional Services Department at 800-654-0118.
