The Chronic Pain Support Group was founded by SunE1
in December 1998. After being placed on disability from
work and having several surgeries, SunE1 craved interaction
with others who understood what it was like to live 24/7 with
chronic pain.
Using the knowledge she'd gained managing web projects during
her career, she created a web page with a little guest book.
Soon the guestbook was brimming with people asking for
help. This is when SunE1 made the decision to begin an
online support group. Soon the first members showed up
and nightly chats began as well as constant posting to the message
boards.
Like real life, CPSG has changed and grown over the years.
Grown in numbers and in its ability to support members.
The constant that has always
been the core of our group is the message boards and the
chat room. As a testiment to the support of CPSG, we still have
members who joined in those early days some are part of staff
today and some will pop in from time to time with news of their
health and
their life. Many of us have made friends we hope to carry
with us for the rest of our lives.
One area we are all proud of is the growth of our members.
Many come into the group afraid to satnd up for their
rights as a patient, but after receiving the support they need
and armed with the knowledge they gain, the members are able
to not only stand up for their rights but confront health care
professionals with new data regarding the treatment of chronic
pain.
